Delicious Deer Meat Recipes Delivering Full Flavor

If you want to learn the secret to cooking delicious deer meat, finding a few good recipes is critical to the process. The techniques revealed in deer meat recipes are actually more important than the list of ingredients, because each technique is used to produce meat that offers exceptional flavor and tenderness. Whether you are the hunter or the spouse, here are a few deer meat recipes to get you started.

Slow-Cooker Venison Stew

Heartily satisfying with a warmth and robust flavor, slow-cooker venison stew is easy to prepare and delicious to eat. Here's what you need to know:

  • 2 pounds venison (cubed)
  • 2 large potatoes (cubed)
  • 4 carrots (sliced into small pieces)
  • 1 large yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 cups water or beef broth
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper

Place the venison and one cup of the water or beef broth into the slow cooker on the lowest setting. After an hour, add the onions. When another hour goes by, add the carrots. Continue cooking the stew for two hours. Mix the cornstarch into the remaining cup of beef broth or water and add it to the stew along with the potatoes. Continue cooking for another hour. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Slow-Cooker Venison Chili

Designed to be hot and rich with flavor, slow-cooker venison chili requires a strong stomach and a large glass of water. Just follow these instructions:

  • 2 pounds venison (ground)
  • 2 large yellow onions (diced)
  • 2 hot peppers (diced)
  • 1 32-ounce can of tomato puree
  • 1 15 to 16-ounce can of dark red kidney beans
  • 1 15 to 16-ounce can of light red kidney beans
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder

Place ground venison (fresh or thawed), diced peppers, and the diced onions into a slow cooker on the lowest setting. Cook for two hours, stirring occasionally to keep the deer meat from sticking to the pot. Sprinkle the chili powder over the venison while stirring it. Cook for another hour. Add the tomato puree and continue cooking your venison chili for another hour. Drain both cans of kidney beans and add them to the chili. Continue cooking the chili until the mix begins to bubble. Taste and add more chili powder if needed. Serve with rice, noodles, or bread.

Skillet Venison Steaks

Seasoned with bacon and butter, each steak delivers the tenderness that only slow-cooking can deliver. Here's the recipe:

  • 2 pounds venison steaks
  • 4 ounces beef bacon (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 large green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 large red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 large yellow onion (sliced)

Line a large skillet with the bacon pieces. Cook on the lowest setting just long enough for the fat to leach into the pan. Add the stick of butter and continue cooking until it melts. Resist the urge to turn up the heat since that increases the risk of burning the butter as well as the bacon. Add your venison steaks to the skillet. Cover with aluminum foil. Turn the steaks every 15 minutes. After an hour, add your pepper and onions, covering the pan with the aluminum foil. Continue cooking for another 30 minutes, turning the deer meat every 15 minutes. Serve with sides of your choosing.

Whether you are new to cooking with venison or you have been doing it for years, learning to cook using deer meat recipes allows you to enjoy venison in new ways. Once you get the hang of it, cooking with venison is easy. The most important instructions to remember are to cook your deer meat slowly, season it liberally, and keep it covered to avoid drying it out unnecessarily.
